Wine is almost unparalleled as a symbol of enjoyment, conviviality, and special moments, but also of tradition and culture. In and around Bressanone, you can taste some of the best wines on South Tyrol’s wine map, as the Valle Isarco is renowned for its top-quality white wines. Visit one of the enotecas in the centre and let local wine lovers advise you. Selected wines are also on the menu in restaurants, and you can learn more about South Tyrolean wine culture during a tour, for example, at the Abbazia di Novacella. Talking of wine: It’s also one of the stars of South Tyrol’s Törggelen, which has its origins in the Valle Isarco. In autumn, not only the new grape juice but also the rich harvest is celebrated during Törggelen. Many wine taverns and farms in the area open their doors for the occasion and invite you to feast on meat platters, Schlutzern and cabbage, barley soup, sweet Bauernkrapfen and, of course, sweet roasted chestnuts. Jingle, bells… When the lights of the Christmas market go on in winter, everyone gathers at the Piazza Duomo in Bressanone. The stallholders look forward to welcoming visitors from all around, warming their hands on a cup of mulled wine, listening to festive live music, or searching for the perfect Christmas gift. The Christmas market is accompanied by a programme for young and old, and there’s also a light show to admire in the courtyard of the Hofburg.
